The spa is a relaxing getaway in the urban jungle of Bangkok. Set in an upper level, the spacious and elegantly designed entrance area consists of a several private lounging huts that invite you to unwind from any stress. In the centre of the entrance area is a long shallow pool with candle lights that spreads immediately a sense of peace and tranquility.
Upon arriving, we were greeted by the super nice spa manager, Mrs. Panjapat Changarun who took the time to sit with us for a while in our little hut where we were served refreshing towels along with fresh rosella ice tea, which by the way reduces blood pressure. She explained us the treatment we were about to have, the Devarana Signature Massage, while we learned that this particular treatment has influences of several well-known massage techniques such as Shiatsu, Swedish, Thai, Aromatherapy and Ayurveda.
We then signed the consultation form (where you have to highlight any allergies, pregnancy or medical condition), before we could choose our favourite oil out of four options. At the same time, we were introduced to the spa therapists (Khun Ying & Khun Gift) who asked us for any particular pain areas and our preferred level of pressure. We quickly changed our shoes to slippers that were provided by the spa and went to the treatment room.
The therapists gave us a thorough tour of the large treatment room that comes along with en suite bathroom and Jacuzzi while we were given 15 minutes to change our clothes (before and after the treatment). After jumping into our bathrobes, the spa therapists confirmed once more the preferred pressure as well any possible pain areas.
While lying face down on our comfortable massage beds, we immediately got soaked into the relaxing scent of freshly sliced kaffir lime and orange in hot water that helps with respiratory cleaning. The spa therapists verified whether we were satisfied with the room temperature, overall comfort and volume of music (also if we wished to have music at all) and if we’d like to have a head massage after the treatment, which we gratefully confirmed.
The treatment started with a hot compress on our back while some pressure was used to relax the muscles before the oil was applied and the treatment continued. An eye cover is provided once you turn around on your back while the massage finishes in the sitting position where the therapists focus on putting pressure on head, neck and shoulder. We learned that it’s ideal to keep the aromatherapy oil for a further 2-3 hours before taking a shower or bath.
After we changed our clothes, we got reminded by courtesy of our personal belongings and were escorted back to the lounge where we got served hot herbal tea which helps to relax and the digestive system. The therapists handed us the spa’s feedback form where we happily described our heavenly experience before we got a sincere farewell.
Our overall conclusion: the Devarana Spa at Dusit Thani Bangkok is a marvellous spa which helps one to relax and rejuvenate from the hustle and bustle of the Big Mango. The spa therapists are excellent skilled and trained while the extensive menu offers the right treatment for every person – we’ll be back!
